Support Policy

How often Axelix releases new versions, which open source versions still receive fixes, and for how long.

Every Axelix release line receives fixes for a limited time. This page explains how often new versions come out, which open source versions are supported right now, and what support includes.

Release cadence

Axelix ships a new minor or major release roughly every 1 to 1.5 months. One of those releases each year is a major one, so a calendar year usually brings about 8 or 9 minor releases and one major release.

Between them, a supported line can also get patch releases (1.2.1, 1.2.2, and so on). Patch releases have no fixed schedule: they ship when a fix is ready. What each kind of release may change is described in Compatibility & Versioning.

How long a version is supported

The open source edition supports only the latest release line. A minor line X.Y is supported from the day X.Y.0 ships until the next release, X.Y+1.0 or a new major, comes out. Given the release cadence, that is usually about 1.5 months.

For example, 1.1.0 shipped on September 10, 2026, and 1.2.0 shipped on October 10, 2026. So the 1.1 line was supported during that month, and since October 10 only 1.2 is supported.

While a line is supported, it receives:

  • fixes for security vulnerabilities, both in Axelix itself and in its dependencies;
  • fixes for critical bugs.

These fixes ship as patch releases of the supported line, for example 1.2.1. New features never land in a patch release: they wait for the next minor. Once a line is no longer supported, it gets no more patch releases, so the fix for a problem you find there is to upgrade to the latest release.

Support is not compatibility

The end of support doesn't mean an older version stops working. Master still works with services that run starters from the last 4 minor releases, as described in the compatibility window. Support only defines which versions still get fixes.

To stay on a supported version, upgrade to every new minor release. The steps are described in Upgrading Axelix.
